The Norfolk falconry course was a great day out. As well as being informative, it (the falconry course) was a truly great experience. Taking the Harris hawks out and flying them ( the hawks ) off the glove was an experience I wont forget, thank you Norfolk falconry.

The delight that we experienced was fantastic ! We were allowed to carry Bilbo ( the Indian eagle owl ) on the glove and to encourage him to fly to nearby gates and fencing and then return to the glove to enjoy a morsel of food as a reward. The sight of the Indian eagle owl gliding close to the ground and then rising to the glove with his eyes full and round is unforgettable. When alighting on the glove to claim his prize, Bilbo is gentle and precise.

We arrived in pouring rain, we thought it might affect the bird of prey experience day, especially for the birds of prey, but No, it was a great after going through health and safety points. We first met the Barn owls, Rosie and Reggie who were beautifully marked and worked as a pair, we then met a large ( European ) eagle owl, then a lovely Kestrel called Dale. A lovely friendly lunch at a local village pub then came the fun part, taking three birds of prey out for a flight. Ice the Snowy owl, a colourful Indian eagle owl which we were able to work with, great and lastly but by no means least, 'Rolf' a Harris hawk. We worked with him on the field after being introduced to him and after that we walked through the woods with the Harris hawk following behind which was so cool. Then we went back for a cup of tea. Very informative, Very friendly, Great fun and Fantastic birds of prey, thank You, Lesley and John, Colchester.
